Actually this bed rest can be harmful. Bed rest after fet. Bed rest for the variable duration is commonly recommended after an embryo transfer ET carried out during an in vitro fertilization IVF. This is based on beliefs that supine position and the reduction of physical activity-to the minimum-might prevent the risk of embryo expulsion once is transferred to the uterus. Even though bed rest had been encouraged with good intentions.
It did not result in the best outcome. Nonetheless it is challenging to reverse widely accepted but unhelpful advice. In the early days of IVF women were restricted to bed rest for 2 weeks after an embryo transfer.
In fact patients were not even allowed to stand up for quite some time after the procedure. The amount of time women are recommended to rest in bed also varies. This has also been researched and regardless of whether the bed rest is for 10 minutes 2 30 minutes 3 one hour 4 or one day 5 it seems that the less time that is spent in bed post embryo transfer the better the chances of pregnancy and ultimately a take home baby.
Our knowledge regarding the importance of staying in bed after embryo transfer has evolved in recent years. Its now evident that strict restrictions were not needed and several studies have proven that to be true. A 1997 study found that a 24-hour bed rest after an embryo transfer did not yield a better result than a 20-min bed rest did.
Typically women who undergo IVF treatment are told to take bed rest for a couple of weeks following the transfer of the embryo. Women often take this bed rest recommendation to mean that they must remain still or risk failure of the implantation process. But research suggests that bed rest following embryo transfer is not required for successful.
In the early days of fertility science and innovation women were on strict bed rest for at least two weeks after an embryo transfer. That meant no standing under any circumstances even to use the bathroom. However recovering from an embryo transfer looks much different today.
First of all good luck and try to relax. I know it can be stressful but I really believe that being happy and relaxed will help. I did take off the day of the transfer and the day after.
I took it easy lying on the couch or in bed for the two days. Only getting up to use the restroom or getting something to eat and or drink. We tell them rest isnt necessary right after embryo transfer or even during the days after but theyre surprised by this fact and dont pay much attention to us.
Theyre afraid if they get up or make any kind of effort such as going to the restroom the embryos will fall. They think they must be alert to keep them in the uterus. Silverberg goes on to explain While most clinics believe the scientific research that suggests that bed rest after embryo transfer is not truly needed its certainly not harmful to the process.

Will bed-rest really help. There are many scientific publications which address this issue. These confirm that normal activity after embryo transfer has no adverse effect on embryo implantation.

And we do our best to encourage our patients to go back to work after the embryo transfer. Keeping yourself gainfully occupied is your best bet. Sitting at home when you are well can be very demoralizing.

It really seems there is no accepted right answer on bed rest. Based on my little research I actually think no bedrest makes sense since naturally pregnant ppl dont do it but also taking it easy after transfer. We do not recommend bed rest after the embryo transfer because there is no evidence that it increases the implantation rate.
In some cases it could be even more stressful for patients than leading a normal life. Once a doctor performs an embryo transfer the most common concern of the couple is for how long should the woman rest for. A simple answer to this is no bed rest is required now some people are of the opinion that bed rest means resting till the pregnancy test date that is for 2 weeks while others think its for a day or two.
One study compared two groups of women where the first rested for 30 minutes after the transfer whilst the second got up and moved around immediately. They found no significant difference in pregnancy rates between the two groups. Another study showed that more prolonged bed rest 24 hours did not significantly affect the pregnancy rate.
My clinic said take it easy for 72 hours after the FET. They dont want me to do anything to raise my heart rate but did not say bed rest explicitly. After that 72 hours the nurse said I could resume my normal activities.
The only exceptions were intercourse and submerging. NEW YORK Reuters Health - Bed rest immediately after an in vitro fertilization IVF procedure despite being common practice did not help women ultimately have a baby in a new study. I started with AFC 11 for this cycle.
During my first retrieval I had 2 large follicules and the rest were all under 7mm with most being under 5mm.
